Of Post Graduate Teaching & Research In
Ayurveda.
In
the year 1954 Government of India had established
a research center for Ayurveda at Jamnagar.
Further a Post Graduate Training Center
in Ayurveda was also started in the year
1956. These two institutes were amalgamated
in 1963 and renamed as Institute of Post
Graduate Teaching and Research. This Institution
is fully financed by Government of India
and administered by the University.
This premier postgraduate teaching Institution
of Ayurveda has best facilities available
for teaching and research in Ayurveda. Till
date nearly 1000 Post Graduate theses have
been submitted and awarded the degree. Nearly
50 theses have been awarded the degree of
Ph.D.
Infrastructure
& Facilities - This Institute has mainly
four constituent parts i.e.: -
The
two hospitals provide Outpatients and 150-bedded
Inpatients treatment facilities. Pathology
and biochemistry laboratories provide necessary
support for modern investigations. It also
has the facility for X - Ray, Ultra Sonography,
E.C.G. etc.
In
this hospital most of the facilities
are provided free of cost with full
financial support from Govt. of India.
Poor patients are provided free consultation,
medicines, food and clothing in this
Hospital. Hospital has the support
of well-qualified physicians and provide
specialized treatment like Panchakarma
and Ksharasutra along with the treatment
for all the diseases. These hospitals
are also used for the training and
research for Post Graduate and Ph.D.
scholars.
A
fully equipped Panchakarma hospital provides
various types of massages, fomentation (sudation),
Vaman, Virechan, Basti, Nasya, Shirodhara,
Pizichil etc. This hospital has a fully
equipped operation theatre and maternity
room.
Post
Graduate Institute maintains three hostels
viz. P.G. Boys hostel, P.G. Ladies hostel
and International Scholar's Hostel. Boys
Hostel has a capacity of 100 single seated
rooms and Ladies hostel has 40 single seated
rooms. In International Scholar's Hostel
there are 10 rooms of which, five rooms
are fitted with Air Conditioners.
There
are seven teaching Departments in the Institute
and provide facility for teaching and research
in 13 specialties for Post Graduate degree
and doctorate degree. After completion of
three year course a degree of Ayurveda Vachaspati
M.D. (Ayu) is awarded by the University.
Twenty-nine stipendary seats are available
for the Indian students coming from all
over the country. Other five seats are reserved
for the teachers of Gujarat State Ayurvedic
colleges, five seats for Govt. of India
nominees and three seats for foreign students
recommended by Govt. of India.

enrolls scholars for Ph.D. degree enrollment
on regular residential basis. These students
have to devote minimum two years duration
for research in the concerned dept.
