Future Prospects
 
Since Dr. P. N. V. Kurup took over as the Vice-Chancellor of this University from 1998 more stress is being given to popularization of Ayurveda in foreign countries. University has opened admissions to foreign nationals in various courses already conducted and designed some new courses according to the need of these students. Looking to the growing demand of Ayurveda in foreign countries Gujarat Ayurveda University has established link with many Institutions and Associations in these countries. Many of these Institutions want to have collaboration for teaching, training and research in Ayurveda. The Govt. Of India has already signed Memorandum Of Understanding with NAAMI, Medical Center Moscow, Russia in which Gujarat Ayurveda University is one of the implementing bodies. University will soon be signing Memorandum Of Understanding with the Institutions in Japan, Australia, Netherlands, America, Germany, Italy & Argentina.
Looking to the growing popularity of Ayurveda in Foreign countries and the request of various Ayurvedic Institutions abroad University has taken the responsibility to work as nodal Institution for providing a common platform to all the Institutions working for the propagation of Ayurveda. After development of ISDN networking facility University will be starting the theoretical instructional courses on the Internet. Overseas students will be provided training facilities. An effort is being made to prepare a globally acceptable curriculum for the short and long term courses to the doctors and general public separately. A college for Mriga Ayurveda (Ayurvedic Veterinary Science) is proposed. Postgraduate diploma course in Mriga Ayurveda for veterinary and Ayurvedic Graduates will be started.
Under the new developmental schemes, a well equipped drug standardization laboratory will take up the job of establishing Internationally acceptable standards for Ayuvedic drugs. For the research, development and teaching of medicinal plants a Green House and a tissue culture laboratory are being established. This facility will help in the cultivation of medicinal plants specially, which are rare species and growing at high altitude.
Areas of Intensive Research
Intensive research in following fields is being undertaken by the Institute:
1. Literary Research -
Research on the available manuscripts is going on. Works on some important manuscripts have been completed and they are in final phases. Intensive research is being conducted on the interpretation and implementation of various fundamental principles. An effort is being made to establish objective parameters for the physical properties.
2. Drug Research -
Intensive research for pharmacological studies of herbal and mineral drugs is going on. Cultivation aspect of various herbs is being studied. Toxicity studies for various mineral and metal preparations are going on. Preparation of laboratory standards for herbo-minerallo-metallic preparation is also envisaged.
3. Clinical Research -
Research in the field of various chronic degenerative and metabolic diseases is going on. Disease like hypertension, CVA, skin disorders, joint disorders, nuerological disorders and their management is being studied at advanced levels. Standardization process for various Panchakarma procedures like Abhyanga Sveda, Vaman-Virechana is going on.
